Houghton Hall

We’ve been to visit Houghton Hall we’re they held a very special exhibition. It was the house of the first British Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole. He collected quite a lot of famous paintings. And for the first time in 230 years all the paintings which in the meantime have been sold and given to museums are back at their original place. This way we had the amazing opportunity to see famous paintings by Renoir, Rembrandt, van Dyck, Valázquez and more in a very baroque environment. Inside the hall it was of course not allowed to take pictures, but look up the exhibition on the internet: Houghton Revisited, The Walpole Masterpieces from Catherine the Great’s Hermitage www.houghtonrevisited.com. This way we introduced our arty part of the 17^th century. In beforehand we read up about art and artists of the 17the century and also read up on the story of art from Stone Age up the 17^th century.

We also took a look at the gardens, walled garden and orchard. There was also an art exhibition going on and we saw a very peculiar water flame. Unfortunately the picture didn’t turn out very good, but the flamy water was quite impressing.

Wir waren in einer sehr besonderen Ausstellung im Houghton Hall. Zum ersten Mal seit 230 Jahren hängen dort wieder die Originalgemälde die Sir Robert Walpole, der erste britische Premierminister und Besitzer des Herrenhauses, gesammelt hatte. So konnten wir berühmte Gemälde von Renoir, Rembrandt, van Dyck, Valázquez in einer sehr barocken Umgebung bestaunen. Im Herrenhaus durfte man keine Fotos machen, aber schaut hier, www.houghtonrevisited.com, um einen Eindruck zu kriegen. So haben wir unseren Kunstteil des 17. Jahrhunderts eingeführt. Zuvor hatten wir über Kunst und Künstler des 17. Jahrhunderts gelernt und auch eine sehr gute Zusammenfassung (siehe Bücher) der Kunstgeschichte von der Steinzeit bis zum 17. Jahrhundert gelesen.

Wir haben auch den Garten besichtigt, auch wenn es stürmisch und regnerisch war. Im Garten war eine Kunstausstellung und wir konnten eine sehr spezielle Wasserflamme sehen. Das Foto ist leider nicht gut herausgekommen, das Original war viel beeindruckender.
